One of the trickiest parts about having a skin rash is that you don’t know what it is caused by. Skin rashes can be caused by a variety of different irritants, including topical creams and lotions, or even things like an allergy to a cat or a type of grass. For you to get rid of your skin rash, you will first have to determine the root cause of it. But how?
Dermatopathy
One of the things that we specialize in here at Gwinnett Dermatology is dermatopathy. This type of procedure is designed to inspect a rash underneath a microscope. To do this, we will remove a small portion of the skin or scape off some of the cells with a biopsy. Once they have been removed, a dermatopathologist will then scrutinize the cells underneath a microscope to diagnose the specific disease. Typically, by looking at the cells underneath a microscope, they will be able to determine whether the cause of the rash is from some allergy or if it is developing because of a specific skin condition like eczema.
Allergy Testing
If the dermatopathologist determines that the cause of your rash is from allergies, then we may recommend that you undergo skin patch testing. Skin patch testing is a process in which your skin will be exposed to specific allergens, and then we will see how your skin reacts. If your skin reacts adversely to particular allergens, then we will know that’s what you’re allergic to.
Once we can identify the cause of your rashes, then we can move forward with treatment to help you find some relief. Dealing with a constant outbreak isn’t just irritating, but it’s also uncomfortable as well.
